In celebration of the first ever World Adoption Day held on November 9, 2014, the organization invited everyone to post a picture of themselves with hands up and a smiley face. Ambassadors, families who adopted, those who were adopted and those who support the cause joined the event. This is to raise awareness and funding to help sponsor adoptions.
There are hundreds of kids being put up for adoption everyday all over the world. Here are some of the reasons why you should consider adoption.
1. You want to be a parent.
Couples usually shun the idea of adopting a kid because he/she is someone else’s biological offspring. Others make adoption their last resort after they exhausted all options to have a child.
Everyone should realise that you don’t have to give birth to a child to be a parent. Just as when you treat your closest friends as your extended family. You love them unconditionally. You treat them like they’re your siblings and you treat their children as your own. You don’t need to share the same genes to consider someone as family.
If you want to be a parent and raise a child, there are hundreds of parent-less children waiting to be adopted. Ask yourself if you’re ready to love a stranger’s kid as your own. If you only love the idea of being a parent but cannot handle responsibilities that come with it, then adoption is not for you. It’s not for everyone.
2. You want to give a child a chance to a better life.
Every child deserves a loving home. Being able to touch and change at least one person’s life is enough contribution to the world. It can add meaning to your life. Think of the kid’s future. He can be the next president or a very important person in the society. If your adopted child grew up to be the best person he could be, then that’s because of you.
3. You want a large family.
If you can’t conceive any more children due to health reasons and you want a large family, adoption is your best option. Keep in mind the responsibilities and expenses that come with raising another child. Make sure your other kids are also ready to welcome a new member of the family. It’s a lifetime commitment.
If you’re pregnant and thinking of putting your child for adoption, it’s your choice. No one will judge your personal choices in life. If you think you’re not capable of being a mother, then ask for options. There are several families who can give your child everything he needs. It is better to give up your kid than to resent him all his life.
If you can’t adopt, there are other ways to help. You can foster a child or donate to organizations that help orphans.
